March 30, 2009 · Filed Under construction · 1 Comment

If you are in the market for heavy duty trucks for sale for your company, you know there are loads dealers there are, so how can someone know whether the internet site with heavy duty trucks for sale is truthworthy or not? First start researching the sites, perhaps even calling the company to find more information. If a well-known and credible company manages a website dedicated to selling used heavy duty trucks, then more than likely that website will be better to buy from than a random web site with some used vehicles for sale. A place like eBay is also good to buy used vehicles from, but only if the vendor has a good rating.

Going to credible internet sites is usually the best course of action when finding heavy duty trucks for sale, especially if someone wants to buy one without losing their cash. Even after finding the model that she wants, physically going to the dealer or person selling the van is often a good concept before paying. This way, a shopper can test the van the van before actually buying it to work out if it is worth buying. Naturally

Naturally there are times where this isn’t really possible. In that case, calling folks who bought used trucks from that same dealer or person is a great concept to get information about the dealer. Auction sites,eg eBay, are useful when trying to be helpful when attempting to find for sale at a very low price. However, they are also riskier, especially if the price appears a bit too good to be true. Always ensure that the person who is auctioning off the wagon has a good rating before actually paying for the used van. Unlike using ebay, some lesser known sites with heavy duty trucks for sale may not be as usfull in determining how reliable the vendor is There are times where a bid for something, paid the bid, but never received the item he bidded on.

The number 1 reason why a a person would want to look online for heavy duty trucks for sale is they have a tendency to be much cheaper. The Internet also offers a much wider selection than looking in nearby towns. When in doubt, somebody simply go to the manufacturer’s website to find used heavy duty trucks for sale there. Otherwise, he can go to auctioning web sites or web sites devoted to selling used cars. This is especially true if somebody wants to spend less cash when buying second hand heavy duty trucks for sale

The Dangers of Carbon Monoxide

March 29, 2009 · Filed Under construction · Comment

If you use gas, wood, oil, or coal as fuel for your home, you and your family may be at risk for carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Carbon monoxide is extremely difficult to detect because it is colourless and has no smell or taste. Although carbon-based fuels are safe to use under proper conditions, these fuels become quite dangerous when they do not burn completely and emit CO into the air.

The haemoglobin in the blood connects with carbon monoxide that is breathed into the body. Haemoglobin is the oxygen-carrying portion of the red blood cells. Carbon monoxide restricts the haemoglobins ability to carry oxygen throughout the body, and the bodys tissues, organs, and cells begin to die. Brain damage, paralysis and even death can occur from only small amounts of carbon monoxide that are breathed in over long periods of time.

It is easy to miss a diagnosis of CO poisoning because the symptoms are very much like other common illnesses. Viruses, the flu, food poisoning, and tiredness may cause a person to feel nauseous and drowsy and can be accompanied by vomiting and stomach pains; these are all symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Vision difficulties, unexplained behaviours, trouble breathing, and chest pains are also symptoms of CO poisoning.

Two of the most prevalent causes of CO poisoning in the home are flues and gas appliances. According to the HSE (Health and Safety Executive), an average of twenty people in the UK die every year from carbon monoxide poisoning. Most home CO poisoning cases are the result of gas applicances or flues that are not installed correctly or are not maintained as instructed. There is a higher risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if there is not plenty of fresh air circulating throughout the home.

The best protection against CO poisoning is being prepared. You must be aware that wherever there is carbon-based fuel being used, the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning exists. Everyone in the home needs to know the dangers and signs of CO in the air. A properly installed carbon monoxide alarm can give you an early warning of the presence of carbon monoxide. Make sure your alarm has a British or European approval mark and complies with British Standard EN 50291. These audible alarms are especially useful if carbon monoxide begins to fill the air at night while everyone is asleep.

To make sure your gas appliance or flue is installed according to established safety standards, hire a CORGI-registered technician for the job. These professionals are trained to install these appliances properly, decreasing your risk for carbon monoxide poisoning. Gas appliances and flues need to be checked at least once a year to ensure there are no operating problems and to make any repairs. In addition, hire a professional chimney sweep to clean flues.

Check Up On Your Engineers

March 29, 2009 · Filed Under construction · Comment

Many residents of the United Kingdom opt for price before professionalism when choosing an engineer to install their gas and heating systems. Cost is important but it is also important to make sure that each engineer you consider hiring is properly certified by the right organizations. Regardless of your repair or renovation budget, making sure that your gas and heating systems are properly installed is of the utmost importance.

The sad fact is that there are a lot of people out there posing as professionally certified Corgi engineers and doing shoddy work that does not get discovered until the final home inspection is completed. These engineers lie to United Kingdom residents about their experience and knowledge and registrations. Some of these impostors even go as far as to create falsified Corgi identification numbers and registration badges to try to convince potential clients of their legitimacy.

The most famous fraudulent engineer in the United Kingdom is David Mees. The David Mees story was reported all over the United Kingdom and the more the story was reported the larger his list of ripped off clients grew. David Mees even went so far as to take out advertisements listing a false Corgi number. If a client questioned David Mees’s standing with Corgi, he would tell them that his work need only be inspected by a Corgi engineer. This was a blatant lie.

The worst part of the story is that the work Mees completed for his clients was never up to code. His work was so poor that it endangered the lives of his clients”clients who only discovered his unprofessional work when they had their homes inspected by the authorities!

Working with gas and having it installed in your home can be dangerous. Gas is a temperamental material and it is vital that the gas and heating systems in your home are properly installed, piped and wired. The best way to do this is to hire a Corgi engineer who is required to keep up to date on local safety and electrical codes. All potential engineers should be double checked through the Corgi organization. Readers can double check an engineer’s Corgi status by calling 0800 915 0485.

It is a good idea to check with your local business bureau to find out if any complaints have been filed against the engineer that you are considering for your home’s construction or renovation. You should also ask any potential engineer for a list of references and his work history. If the engineer hesitates before providing either of these, you should seriously consider moving on to the next candidate.

Always make sure that your gas and heating systems are professionally installed to ensure that you and your home are as safe they possibly be!

Gas Supply is Carefully Managed

March 27, 2009 · Filed Under construction · Comment

Regulations for gas mains and services are established to protect UK residents, and the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) monitors the compliance of these regulations. HSE publications provide homeowners and construction workers with essential information about gas supply lines. Questions about any aspect of pipeline safety, including installation and maintenance, should be directed to a Health and Safety Executive representative.

The depth of gas mains and services pipes is a concern for many. Although the Pipelines and Safety Regulations 1996 (PSR) reports regulations for pipe design and installation, it does not address the issue of minimum gas pipe depth. A Guide to the Pipelines Safety Regulations 1996, a publication by the HSE, and Approved Code of Practice and Guidance Design, Construction and Installation of Gas Service Pipes, a Health and Safety Commission (HSC) publication, supply detailed information about depth requirements of gas lines. HSE oversees adherence to the requirements. Service pipes in heavily travelled areas, such as footpaths and highways, must be a minimum of 450mm underground, while service pipes on private land must be buried at least 375mm. Gas mains must be buried at least 750mm.

Anyone that digs in the ground can damage a gas main or service pipe, which is unlawful according to PSR regulation 15. Practical instructions and guidelines to decrease the risk of damaging a gas pipeline can be found in HSE HSG47, Avoiding Danger from Underground Services, and information sheet, Avoiding Damage to Buried Services.

Gas mains and services must be in good condition in order to comply with PSR regulation 13. HSE ensures the safety of all gas pipelines, and the agency has determined that all existing iron gas pipes near occupied territories must be replaced with pipes of polyethylene or other suitable material. Pipeline operators have until March 2032 to decommission and replace all iron pipelines in their systems. Any pipes that are known to be in questionable condition are expected to be replaced as soon as possible.

HSE is monitoring the highly publicized Milford Haven Pipeline, which is owned by National Grid Gas. National Grid Gas must follow all established regulations for pipe design, system construction, and operation. The pipeline operators must comply with the health and safety laws of gas mains and services. HSE will inspect the construction and operation of the project to verify that all regulations are met. The agency will also determine land planning zones for areas affected by the pipeline construction. HSE regulation will continue after the completion of the pipeline.

Citizens can be assured that the Milford Haven Pipeline will be constructed according to careful planning. HSE considers all aspects of the pipeline, such as diameter, wall thickness, type of steel, depth of pipe burial, and pressure limits to determine the zoning regulations. The risk of thermal radiation from the pipes is assessed, and HSE advises the pipeline operators where and how to construct the pipeline.

Things To Avoid When Building A Fence

March 27, 2009 · Filed Under fence · Comment

People build fences everyday while they are done well by most standards, there are some things that could always be done better. Here are some things that can be done to make your next fence better. You start a fence by making holes spaced about every 8 feet apart for the 4×4x8′ treated posts. These holes should be dug 2 feet deep with a post hole digger. Most people stop right there with a cylinder shaped hole since digging these holes is the most strenuous part of fence building. To ensure the post is well anchored the fence installer should use the post hole digger at an angle around the whole diameter of this hole to make a ball shaped anchor at the bottom of the cylinder. Post holes are much better if dug this way.

Another mistake people make is not realizing the fact that wood never sticks to concrete. Drive by any concrete job and you will notice they use wood forms to frame the concrete held up by nails and wood stakes. The next day the concrete workers take the nails out and these wood forms just fall off of the concrete. Another problem is bugs and water in the soil can deteriorate the wood posts. To prevent these problems the fence builder should put black roof tar on the bottom two feet of the fence post that enters the ground. This will prevent the post from rotting and enables the concrete to stick to the posts. After the posts are leveled and set you should allow them to dry for one whole day before nailing on them. If you start nailing on them before the concrete is completely set you will knock the posts out of level.

Most often, people are only using two rails per fence slat. This is okay, but you really should consider more. To build a secure fence that will last for years, three rails should be used. The top rail should be placed on the top of the fence posts lying in a horizontal position. The fence slats should not be installed more than 8″ above this top rail. If so they will tend to twist and turn with age. The bottom rail shouldn’t be more than 8″ above the bottom of the fence slats for the same reason. The center rail should be placed evenly between the top and bottom rails.

One thing often over looked is that we assume that water only travels downward. That assumption is almost correct but don’t understand the lip or linger factor. There is one instance where water can and will travel up, and every fence builder should be aware of. If you are wondering why your fascia boards rot and warp, this is why.

Here is an example. Ever noticed that you see paint bubbling on the bottom of the fence? The paint or wood sealer should have protected the wood from moisture to prevent it from rotting but the linger factor wasn’t taken into account. Meaning, that the water traveled up and rotted the wood.

Many contractors never seal the bottom lip of the wood. Over the years as water drains down the face of the wood it lingers on the exposed bottom lip and begins to soak up into the wood causing it to rot. If you want to water seal or paint your new fence, always be certain to coat the top and bottom lip.

So there you have it. The key things to remember are to make sure the posts are actually sealed, and you make sure that the bottom of the wood gets sealed to prevent rotting. If you are in the process of making a fence then you can make these simple changes.

What Does a Building Surveyor do in a Home Buyers Report

March 26, 2009 · Filed Under construction · 1 Comment

Prior to buying any property, it is highly advisable to enlist the help of a qualified building surveyor. The surveyor will check over the property and offer valuable advice about any aspects of the building that are in need of attention.

It is worth noting that although a building surveyor will offer an estimate for expected repairs to a property and also a valuation for insurance purposes, the surveyor does not value the property on market value.

If the property in question falls into certain categories then a full building, survey will be needed. The report it self is an easily understandable description of all the requirements that are needed to bring the property up to a good state of repair.

One of the important things to consider when buying a property is the cost of any repairs whether you know about the defects or you don’t. A surveyor will find out what is going to need attention and furnish you with a report showing the details.

The building surveyor will go about his work, looking for defects or weaknesses in the building structure. If there are any discoveries that can be seen as influencing the property’s stability or safety, the surveyor will point these out.

If the surveyor discovers anything that he believes would be of interest to your solicitor, then he will provide those details within the report which can then be forwarded on to the solicitor who is handling all your legal stuff concerning the house purchase.

If the property is over 30 years of age, then even if you wanted to have a Homebuyers survey conducted, you would in fact have to get a Full Building Survey. There are also other factors that would warrant the need for a full building survey.

If the building concerned has had major alterations carried out on it or an extension has been constructed or any other construction work has been performed on the property, then a full building survey is going to be needed. It would be worth it to have one anyway.

Never Neglect Your Garage Doors

March 25, 2009 · Filed Under construction · Comment

Most men enjoy to fix a lot of things that get broken in a household. However, when it comes to prefab garages, hiring a specialist is the best possible and recommended solution. The danger is in the tension, the force accumulated by the springs, which can jump and get you seriously hurt or even kill you.

When trying to remove the broken torsion springs of a garage door, their tension gets released, making them move with an incredible force in all directions. Everybody around that spring is exposed to a big danger.

When torsion springs release their tension, they may have unpredictable movements, thus exposing everybody around to severe injuries, from losing an eye to losing your life. This is why only skilled persons should perform this replacement operation

Most of the times, although springs work as a pair, only one will break. Even so, you still have to buy the set and have both of them replaced. You want your door to operate smoothly, so it is required that both springs act with the same strength.

The torsion springs replacement process requires specialized tools. Such tools, like a spring tensioning tool could be available for rent at specialized shops. If you can’t find the tools you need, don’t try to use improvised associations of cranking bars or similar items. It is simply too risky for your health.

Modern doors have another kind of springs, which are easier to replace, because they can be tensioned with electric drilling machines. Even so, replacing springs is still not a do it yourself enterprise.

Professionals in garage door repairs may be expensive, but your life is surely worth more than the time of a pro hired to replace those springs for you. Garage door companies employ competent men who work with expensive, professional tools. Besides, they have all the parts that may be broken and needing replacement, which you won’t be able to find in stores.

A garage door springs replacement would probably take about 500 dollars out of your pocket. However, in some states, such services may be obtained as cheap as for 75 dollars or so. Do some research within your area and see what you can get.
