Swimming Pool Supplies Make Maintenance Easy

April 11, 2012 · Filed Under pool · Comment

A pool is almost a necessity in the middle of a long and hot summer. Lots of people would like to have one, but may not know which one is best or how to maintain it. There are swimming pool supplies that should be purchased to keep it clean and fun to use.

Pools can be placed in the ground or above ground. Above ground pools are often easier to install, an in ground pool requires skilled professionals to pour and finish concrete, place tile, and put in the necessary plumbing. Even if just a metal frame and plastic liner is used, heavy equipment is often needed to dig a hole. An above ground model can often be put up by the homeowner, and can be moved or taken down if necessary.

A pump and filter are necessary for all types of pools. The pump pulls the water into the filter and then pushes it back out. The filter removes small particles of dirt, which keeps the water clean.

There are a few different filters to choose from: cartridge, sand, or DE filters. Sand filters take impurities from the water as it is pushed through. Usually the sand can be used over and over for five years before it must be replaced.

A cartridge filter, which is usually the least expensive, passes the dirty water through it and catches the dirt. It can be easily cleaned with a hose and needs to be replaced about once a year. They are usually only used in above ground models.

DE, or diatomaceous earth, filters produced exceptionally clean water, as they can remove very small pieces of dirt. Additional earth must be added whenever the filter is cleaned. They may initially be a larger expense than cartridge or sand types, but may be the least expensive to maintain.

The water must also be maintained with a mixture of chemicals. The amount and type needed is determined by the pH level of the water. The ideal pH level is between 7.2 and 7.6, this can be accurately measure with a testing kit. Based on the level, chemicals such as chlorine are put in the water. Manufacturer’s recommendations or the advice of a professional should be followed in determining what chemicals are best to use.

Other possible accessories include thermometers, heaters, winter covers, and portable steps to get in or out. There are also automatic cleaners, which eliminate a lot of the need for skimming or scrubbing. Depending upon the type, they will clean and recirculate water, vacuum the bottom, and remove debris from the top.

Most garden centers and some department stores will carry swimming pool supplies. Additionally, they are easy to locate online. No pool should be ill-maintained or dirty. Enduring the summer has never been easier.

April 11, 2012 · Filed Under pool · Comment

While we all prefer to acquire the most excellent when we are considering spending money on something, it is essential to recognize that you don’t need to take out a loan against your home to acquire a decent pool table. You can without a doubt seek out a fine, trustworthy, and soundly built pool table with a cheap price. The honesty of the astronomically priced pool tables is you are generally spending money on an out of the ordinary kind of wood and generally elaborately carved designs or inlay in the rails. You don’t require these things. We intend to cover a few important items concerning pool tables and what you need to know about them.

There may not seem to be all that much to a pool table, especially to someone who’s new to the game. The table, however, actually has some very subtle and detailed features that allow the game to be played smoothly. When pool balls are in play, and they hit the table cushions, they will bounce off them, so these play an important function for the game.

Carom billiards tables are radically different from the standard pool table used for pocket billiards. For one thing, Carom tables have thicker slate beds than ordinary tables. A typical pool table, meanwhile, whose quality is good enough for tournaments in the U.S. only has to have a one inch slate thickness. Also, the Carom table slate bed must be heated to approximately 9 degree F above room temperature, as well. The accumulation of moisture on the table cloth is prevented by applying heat to the slate. When you play on a Carom table, you want the balls to roll as fast as possible, and this demands a dry surface.

There is a particular type of game called Carom billiards, and it is played on a unique table which is completely different from what many pool players are used to seeing. We aren’t positive of exactly where or when it originated but it’s said to have originated in France in the 18th century. These tables were often made of heated slate covered in cloth and range about 5 foot by 10 foot in size. There are no pockets to this table however. The reason for the absence of pockets is simply that points are scored by "caroming" the cue ball off the opponents cue ball and the object ball in one shot.

Another good benefit of Brazil slate is that it can be made into an extremely flat surface to very tight tolerances. There is an impressive amount of information on the Internet regarding pool tables of all sorts. If you are conducting research because you are considering purchasing a table, then you will have an advantage after learning everything that you can. We graciously advise that you buy the most optimal quality you can comfortably pay for. The rationale for doing this is basically because they cost a lot of money, and a fine quality pool table will last you several years.

April 11, 2012 · Filed Under pool · Comment

The easiest and most affordable way to keep cool in summer is purchasing from a wide selection of Intex pools. These above ground vinyl pools are simple to set up and can provide the perfect relaxation time to escape the intense heat. Although these options are appealing, the structure still requires a fair amount of care and maintenance to keep water quality at its best.

Depending on pool capacity, most sizes will include a small filter. It is essential that the pump is run on a daily basis for a few hours. This will ensure that water continuously flows for the prevention of standing for long periods and attracting a range of water loving critters.

Maintenance involves keeping optimal levels of sanitation so always add specified amounts of chlorine to the water on a daily basis. This will prevent prolific algae growth and the action of having to shock treat water. Chlorine added everyday needs to be maintained and tested for safer levels of chemical in the water so that individuals do not swim in water with dangerous levels of chlorine.

The use of a pool net is an excellent way to keep leaves and other floating debris from the surface. For objects that happen to settle on the floor of the pool, make use of a garden hose attached to a vacuum head and debris bag. Once turned on, the device will create a natural suction and may be attached to a pole in order to get to those hard to reach areas.

Water that appears green or brown should be treated for extensive algae growth and harmful bacteria. This will involve the action of shocking the water by adding an increased dosage of chlorine eliminating the algae and bacteria. It is important to keep chlorine levels in check so that algae does not grow and build up in the first place.

When adding extra chlorine ensure that all instructions are followed and the chemical dissolved before being added to the pool. This will prevent the possibility of bleaching the lining. Shocking a poll does not entail a single dose of chlorine, but instead one is required to maintain these high levels for at least 24-36 hours ensuring that all algae and bacteria have been eliminated.

Keep the outside of your pool looking clean by wiping the material with a damp cloth as this will also prevent staining the exterior. Intex pools have been rated as one of the most popular brands as a result of its affordability and simple set up process. Big Fun Till The Top Ring Does Not Inflate

April 8, 2012 · Filed Under pool · Comment

The pool is deep enough to swim under water but shallow enough for little ones. The water is already cloudy, I ran the filter that came with it for 5 hours and it was still cloudy so I just ordered the chlorine to add to it.

The store was out of pools so I don’t know if this was a one time problem or not. We got it all ready at night to surprise them in the morning.

The pool itself is fine for young children. It really does not do anything a pool filter pump is supposed to do. Cleaning of this pool is a chore. You have to constantly keep adding chemicals to keep the water from turning cloudy or green. This means that it floats up as you fill up the pool, then it goes flat (we haven’t been able to figure out why) and all the water runs out. Use 2 cups of chlorine to “shock” the pool once a week (don’t swim in the pool for a day afterwards), and 1 cup of chlorine every other day to keep the water clean. Overall, I would give this pool a good review. The first pool we bought lasted 2 years. The pool filter does a good job of keeping the water clean, provided the pump is left running 24/7.

I’m really glad my babies talked me into getting it.

Buy a floating chlorinator. While the supplied one works, we are considering getting a larger one - just to keep that crystal clear water. It does take longer than the 10 minutes advertised on the box for set up. This is our 3 year of owning the 12′ pool. We’re just living with the leak. The sides seem to very durable, just wish the top ring was also. We purchased one and it allows me to clean the bottom of the pool and you’ll need a leaf skimmer to clean the water surface. It didn’t completely stay straight but was OK.

I have read the reviews left by previous customers and it leaves me wondering about their expectations, This pool have been very good to us. Using the store bought shock treatments will just ruin the liner.

It took me and my husband about 2 hours to set up (including adding the water). I don’t think I would buy this pool again. I regret using liquid chlorine the one time it leaked in my minivan and ruined the minivan’s carpet. It doesn’t set up as easy as they advertise - it takes at least two people to get it spread out properly, more would be even better. I am returning it to Target today, I hope. It filled in a little over an hour with our garden hose and was perfectly level.

We drained our well dry trying to fill the big joker up and had to have county water fill it up hot tub heater.

Kids Love It, But You’ll Learn To Despise It

April 8, 2012 · Filed Under pool · Comment

It meant an extra five minutes of skimming the pool by hand every day, something I honestly didn’t mind. Our experience is that after filling it up, two weeks passed and we didn’t cover it, the water was totally green! We tried adding dirt to the lower section of the yard, but still unable to get it level. Even my five year old refused to go in and he loves the water.

It is not strong enough to circulate the water properly. I have never owned a pool before, and if you haven’t I strongly recommend going to an actual pool store and having someone show you exactly what chemicals you need and how to maintain it. The sides are quite durable but the thin vinyl on the bottom sucks. I just wanted people to know that this could happen to you too. I went to my local Walmart and bought some liquid chlorine. It was bulging so bad the wall would let go and it was Niagra Falls.

For a single mother on a fixed income, my children are now disappointed and I can’t afford to buy a new one. This pool was very difficult to set-up. She loves the water and we can’t keep her out of the pool now.

I can’t find any holes but obviously they are there somewhere. Had it right the first time, but the house well has a special filter on it and I didn’t think to check it before filling pool.

The most important step is to start smoothing it out when the water gets a few inches high and then continue to do so until there’s enough water that you can’t move it anymore. I think this could happen to anyone’s pool at some point even if you don’t leave it out all winter. We ended up having to inflate the ring a couple times a day.

Each time we went on weekend trips it became a problem. Thank you Intex for the greatest pool ever. It looked like Willy Wonka’s River..

We moved it to more even ground and it’s been fine ever since.

The patch kits repaired it beautifully. They claim to have high quality control, but they refuse to fix any problems. Beware of this company. The width gives lots of space for the kids to play around and have fun. From that point on I used the floater with chlorine tabs and used liquid chlorine as needed.

Apparently the glue softens this very thin vinyl and the whole grew to 2wice it’s size hot tub disconnect.

A Brief History Of Balustrading

April 6, 2012 · Filed Under pool · Comment

Balustrading refers to the supporting struts that give strength to a banister on a staircase. The term may also be applied to a series of vertical supports connecting the top and bottom rails of a length of fencing. A baluster may be as simple as a smooth pole, either round or square in cross-section, or as ostentatiously ornate.

The first known balustrades are displayed in bas-relief from the 23rd Century BC Assyrians. Here, they were used to decorate royal palaces. Oddly, the Greeks and Romans employed this motif in their tables and chairs but not their architecture.

Balustrades in the 21st Century are made from a variety of different materials and designed in different forms. The most simple, minimalist examples are composed of chrome or metal rods with plate glass in between. For privacy, as on a balcony rail, the glass may be frosted. Where visibility is desired, the glass can be colorless and clear, or perhaps slightly tinted. Plexiglass can be used to good effect for curved structures.

Many wooden balusters are often produced out of wood on a lathe to produce a graceful curved shape. These project an aura of classic wealth and gentility. This design translates well to marble or stone castings.

Another material that lends itself very well for this purpose is wrought iron. Extremely malleable, it can be fashioned into forms that give the barrier a three dimensional aspect. They can be formed into wild geometric shapes or highly intricate filigree. India has some excellent examples of detailed carved balustrades.

Balustrading is used in a variety of walls, fences, railings and staircases. They are used to provide structural support and for pleasing aesthetics. This motif has been incorporated into architecture for approximately five thousand years. They were introduced by the ancient civilization, the Assyrians, as evidenced in artwork representing their lifestyle.
